Why a pastor started a science fiction company — and why it’s called 35:31.
In Exodus 35, when God commissions the tabernacle, He doesn’t fill a priest with His Spirit first — He fills a craftsman. Bezalel, “filled with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.” It’s the first time in Scripture anyone is described as Spirit-filled, and it happens to an artist with a job to do.
That verse is this studio’s entire thesis. Craft is not decoration on top of faith. Craft is a way of taking both the work and the audience seriously.
Be honest: you’ve seen the Christian movie with the sermon where the third act should be. We love what those stories are trying to do — and we think the audience deserves better than trying. Meanwhile, the best science fiction and fantasy being made today asks openly spiritual questions and answers them with despair, or with nothing at all.
35:31 Studios exists in that gap: stories with the craft of the best of the genre and the honesty to say where hope actually comes from. Real stakes. Real darkness. Deliberate light. No cursing, no sexual content — and no discount on quality for saying so. We make quality or we make nothing.
A Weak Fool
The pen name comes from 1 Corinthians — God choosing the foolish and the weak things of the world on purpose. It’s a reminder stitched into the byline: the stories matter more than the storyteller.
Behind the name is a pastor and author who grew up on anime, epic fantasy, and space opera, and never stopped believing those genres could hold the biggest questions. He wrote The Stratos Saga first. He’s writing Seraph’s Sword now. The studio is the long game: a home where Christian creators build worlds — in print, in panels, and eventually on screens.
How a world gets built here
The road we’re walking runs Novels → Concept Art → Manga → Motion → Screen. Books prove the story. Art proves the world. Each step has to fund and earn the next — no shortcuts, no skipped steps, and no promises about how far we get. The Stratos Saga has finished step one. Seraph’s Sword is being built with the whole road in mind.
